ECHOES OF CORAL

The Echoes of Coral collection is inspired by the Mediterranean coral formations near Isola d’Elba and created in response to the climate challenges threatening these vital ecosystems.

This collection began not as a replica, but as an echo. I wasn’t trying to imitate coral exactly, but to capture its porous structure—delicate yet resilient. Each textured surface becomes a quiet reminder of the ecosystems that exist beneath the waves and the fragile balance that sustains them. The pieces turn jewelry into environmental storytelling, where beauty and urgency coexist.

The colors reflect the transformation happening beneath the surface. White and cream suggest coral bleaching—when stressed coral expels the symbiotic algae that give it life. Blues evoke the Mediterranean’s deceptive calm—still stunning to the eye, yet warming steadily. Coral pinks and deeper grays span the spectrum between vibrancy and decay, side by side in a shifting sea.

Each ring begins as French Limoges porcelain, pierced and carved while still soft, allowing the clay to follow an organic rhythm. For the colored pieces, I work with pigmented porcelain to create those marine tones. Some are embedded with tiny pearls of melted silver—like bubbles, or the small creatures that take shelter in a reef.

The collection is born from love for a place, and fear for its future. For me, the Mediterranean means the crystalline waters of childhood summers, the delicate coral I saw diving, and the coral and pearl jewelry my grandmother wore. When someone wears one of these rings, they carry a piece of that sea and its fragility with them.

Sometimes the most beautiful things carry the heaviest messages. In the case of Echoes of Coral, beauty becomes a way of bearing witness—of remembering, and reminding.

Recent studies show that Mediterranean coral forests are under significant stress from warming waters, with some populations declining by up to 47% in just five years.
