MATCH HOLDERS AND STRIKERS
Strike a Match, Light a Moment
This collection of ceramic match strikers was born from an unexpected delight: seeing my ceramic cupcake stands transformed into candle holders by the people who live with them.
It was one of those moments when you realize your work is already serving the experiences you care about most. So I decided to support that use completely, and to create something made specifically for the candle lighting ritual that would sit perfectly alongside those cupcake stands.
These pieces share the same design language: curved lines that feel both architectural and organic, and a tactile interplay of smooth, glazed surfaces and matte, unglazed areas that invite touch. I’ve always been drawn to stripes, and here they come alive in new ways. Dots of colored clay form a handle on the lid, while slip stripes along the unglazed body offer a textured striking surface for strike-anywhere matches.
To make them versatile for different matches, I’ve also included a second striking surface hidden inside the lid for regular kitchen matches. This small detail adds flexibility and purpose to each piece, letting you choose whichever match you have on hand.
Everything you need for lighting a candle is contained within this simple, thoughtfully crafted vessel: matches stored safely inside, striking surfaces always close at hand. It keeps the ritual tidy and focused, without the visual clutter of matchboxes left around.
Beyond lighting candles, depending on the size, these match striker jars can also hold small essentials—like toothpicks, cotton swabs, or hairpins—adding a useful touch to your space without feeling out of place.
I hope these small vessels find a place in your routines, an invitation to strike a match and bring a little glow to whatever moment you choose.
